Have You Made It Easy To Buy From Your Website?

Convincing prospects to purchase from you is a hard job, and you certainly don’t need to make it any harder - but have you ever thought that you could be making the process twice as difficult for both parties when your prospects are convinced and want to buy but don't know how to buy from you? In a nutshell, no matter how good you are at convincing your prospects, they won't buy if they find the process cumbersome.Time to take a good look at your site and view it through the eyes of a purchaser. First, you’ll want to check your order form can be found easily and is hassle-free. Write a clear, concise paragraph to direct your prospects to your order form so that you can minimize the chances of them getting lost. You can also reduce the chances of losing prospects by putting a prominent link to your order page from every other page on your site. Do you offer multiple payment options? Some people may feel comfortable paying via PayPal, others may only want to pay with their credit card, and then there are others who might want to send a cheque. The more options you offer, the better your chances of covering your prospects' preferred payment method. After all, it wouldn't make any sense to sell hard to a prospect only to find that they won't be able to pay you when they want to.You’ll also want to prove that you are a credible merchant. Is your order form secured using encryption technology? You would want to look into SSL for this. You can also offer a money back guarantee so that people will feel confident about buying from you. How about after sales support? Who do they contact when they have problems after purchasing? Do you have a means of a purchaser contacting you without going to the ends of the earth to find your contact details? Additionally, you can add customer testimonials, your contact information, address, and so on to boost your prospects' confidence. It all goes towards making them feel safe about buying from you, who in truth is a total stranger to them on the other end of the Internet. In finishing this post , it would be very pitiful if you sold hard and sold well to a prospect and something goes wrong when he or she is ready to pay.Eliminate any chances of that happening to maximize your profits! Test your site regularly.

What’s The *~%# DOES It Take To Get Site Visitors?

The thing I love about blogs is the opportunity to share your knowledge with others to assist them in becoming successful. I read a lot of information on the web, some I take on board, some I reject. Not because the advice is not sound, but because it may be difficult to implement their suggestions right now (financially and technically). This seems to be common with "newbie" website entrepreneurs. One of my readers posted a comment to my blog article "How to Get Your Site Visitors NOT Doing What You Want" asking how do they get their website noticed. There is no one step answer to this question. In fact it's hard work! However there are many ways which (when you combine them together) you can drive visitors to your site. I will give you my top 4 ways to get your website noticed. Just keep reading... What we know for sure is that unless you ARE known, the first port of call for anyone looking for answers to their problem (after all we all "search to solve a problem") is the search engines (aka Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc) What you do want is to be visible in the search engine listings, and preferably on page 1 or 2 of the search results for your site keywords. This in itself is a huge ask. Many factors go into getting a PR1 or PR2 in the search listings. I have come to the conclusion that you have to be well versed in website SEO (Search Engine Optimization), have the right keywords for your site (after thorough research using something like Wordtracker), be constantly adding new information (like in the form of a blog), and include a site map. All of this takes time, education and money (how much of each usually depends on finances). Or.. you can use Google Adwords to do the same thing without the depth needed to get an "organic search result". I won't go into Google Adwords here - suffice to say that it's Google's advertising juggernaut which returns "sponsored listings" to search engine queries based on the keywords used in the search term. Yes it costs you money, however given the unlikelihood of getting PR1 or PR2 listings of your website through "organic" means (believe me... there are website owners out there whose sole purpose is to tweak their sites until they crack they PR1/PR2 ranking), this is definitely an avenue to explore. Getting your hands on as much information as you can about how to utilize Adwords to give you the maximum ROI (return on investment) just makes sense. No point throwing good money down the drain because you don't understand how it works. Advertising is a known medium for driving customers to buy. It's no different for websites. Tell A Friend There's nothing quite like viral marketing to spread the word. Every website should have the means to tell others about the site and thereby drive more traffic to the site. I wrote about this is a previous blog post. Affiliates & Joint Venture Partners Another way to get your site noticed is to bring affiliates on board who can promote your site to their subscribers. Check out what other successful websites in your niche are doing. Look to see if they have affiliate programs. When launching a website it is possible to search out partners to joint venture with to increase your exposure. Let me give you an example. I have a friend who I did a website for her to sell an e-book. She is an accomplished travel agent with a wealth of knowledge only a travel agent could give in her e-book. I suggested to her to partner with an eBay powerseller (one who sells a lot). Simply look for a powerseller who sells travel goods, write a quick email asking if they would be interested in sending out an email to their list promoting her e-book with a cut of the purchase price going back to the Powerseller. Just be careful how you approach them as you don't want to be in violation of Ebay rules and have your account terminated. Print Media Advertising Offline Print Media can be a great way to boost your exposure. If your site is in a niche,  seek out niche publications to advertise in. Make sure you track your advertising so you know what works and what doesn't.  Don't put in small classifieds in publications. Far better to save up and go for a decent size advertisement which has all the elements of good sales copy (sell the benefits!!) to entice the reader to act. Branding I couldn't finish this post without mentioning product branding. We can all see that product branding works (you only have to think McDonald's). Branding a website starts with using consistency. Same colours, same logo, same tagline, same, same, same. Brand your website where ever possible. Put your website details on business cards, letterheads, email signatures, promotional material, all advertising, posters, banners... anywhere where you can put your website details put it! Getting your site noticed does take time, effort and energy. Consistently applying the methods which I have shared with you above will pay dividends.

Pass This On And I’ll Give You [Blank]

Give me $500. Come on! Give me $500!!!

What?  You’re not going to just give me your money? Why Not!? See, when you ask someone to do something for you, unless they have some motivation to do so, they just won't do it. No motivation. So today I want to focus on motivating your current subscribers to grow your list (aka viral marketing). Viral marketing makes use of the tendency of a person to share something found to be informative, entertaining or amazing. Viral marketing makes use of many mediums in enticing this behaviour. It might be in the form of an interesting story, an addicting flash game, an amusing video and many others that may catch a person’s fancy.

This ingenious form of marketing is typically low cost and is a wonderful tool for any company to utilise. The benefit greatly overshadows the cost or efforts to initialise this marketing scheme. Viral marketing makes use of many mediums in enticing this behaviour. It might be in the form of an interesting story, an e-report, an addicting flash game, an amusing video and many others that may catch a person’s fancy.

Viral marketing is wonderful, but "True Viral Systems" are quite rare. A true viral system is one with a "Spawn Rate" of x>1 Spawn Rate: The Rate at Which Your Viral System Grows - That is, for every one person who enters the viral system, they will, on average, result X number additional people spreading the word as well.                          If your spawn rate is greater than 1, over time you have something that grows and grows perpetually.   Every viral system will die at some point even if they are truly viral, however your system does not have to be truly viral for you to benefit.  If you have a spawn rate of X < 1 you will still get growth - and growth, when you're talking about an email list, *is* exactly what you want to achieve. Ah, this is the *theory* of viral marketing.  It sounds wonderful doesn't it? The problem is, getting the actual result is the problem. Here's where the real value of what I have to tell you surfaces.

So just how do you increase the Spawn Rate of your viral system?, or put in layman’s terms, how do you get people to spread your marketing message for you?

The Golden Rule of Viral Marketing: "If there is no motivation, there is no viral  growth."

You weren’t motivated to give me $500 were you?  Unconsciously you were looking for the “What’s In It For Me” answer.

And if you weren’t offered a reason to give me $500, or you couldn’t find one then you simply won’t do it. Put simply, there has to be motivation.

Whoa! I can hear the naysayer loud and clear…  “But what about if I just wanted to give for no real reason at all?”. Then I say your motivation is to please the asker, or you want to avoid the pain you will  experience when you say  “No”.

So in order to motive people to do something for you, you want to motivate them by giving a compelling reason to do so.

The classic way to motivate people to spread the word is to offer them an incentive: "Pass this on and we'll give you ____" (fill in the ____ with your creativity).

Motivating doesn't need to be overt as sometimes people are motivated to pass things on for more subtle reasons. Ever noticed how many jokes get passed on from one email address to another? The reason they get passed on is you generally found them funny and want to share the humour with a friend. Knowing the value of viral marketing, a number of software applications have been spawned to assist your viral marketing efforts. There was plenty of hype around Mike Filsaime’s Viral Friend Generator when it was launched and I recommend as the best viral marketing tool to use for your website.

Tell A Friend Script

One of the easiest methods in viral marketing is using a tell-a-friend script. This is a simple programming script that you can attach to the programming of your website. Generally, tell a friends script are installed in pages where a media is placed so that a person can easily send the media to any of his friends or his family members.

The basic concept of  a tell a friend script is a script wherein a person may input his name, e-mail address, the recipient’s e-mail address and send the media to the intended recipient much like an e-mail with an attachment. As the recipient receives the e-mail he wouldn’t think of the mail a spam mail because he would see the sender’s name as someone he or she knows and trust.

Tell a friend script eliminates greatly the chances of being blocked because they use the information inputted by the sender. This allows for wider spreading of this marketing method. It can be quite sneaky but it is very effective.

With the e-mail sent and opened the sent media will either be read, viewed or played. Also along with the mail would be a brief description of the company or site that sponsors the media sent. This allows for the introduction of either the site, company name or its products. The along with it is another tell a friend script.

Then the process begins again. As more people use the tell a friend script, more and more people will know of the existence of the sponsoring company or site. People who read the ads inside the mail who liked what they see would go and click on the link and visit the site. This drives traffic into the site resulting to great number of potential customers.

 Tell A Friend Script Availability

A tell a friend script is very simple and does not require a complicated method of programming. In fact, you can copy paste a script and simply put it on an intended page. Finding one is even simpler. All you have to do is go to a search engine and type in the search box “tell a friend script” then press enter or click go.

In the search results page you will see many links that will direct you to a site where you can get a tell a friend script. It would just be a simple matter of looking and searching for the script and copying it to your intended web page.

With a tell a friend script viral marketing strategy you can drive traffic into your site which could potentially spell profits. This is a simple harmless script that offers great benefits for low cost paired with great creativity and foresight.

It is imperative that you have patience in using a tell a friend script. If your chosen media doesn’t get the mileage that is expected of it, it may take some time before it gets spread or shared. But surely many people will see your ads and there is great probability that they will visit your site increasing your traffic flow.

What’s Wrong With Internet Marketing?

Just like most people these days we all have an opinion. Opinions are are agreed on, and at other times they are de-bunked as a load of hogwash. Irrespective of whether you agree or don't it's irrelevant, because opinions are based on knowledge (or lack thereof). I've been watching the Internet marketing circles for some time now. Watching people like: Mike Filsaime Rich Schefren Eric Houmlund Derek Gehl Keith Wellman Michael Rassmussen Dave Guindon Tim Brocklehurt Craig Haywood Joe Vitale Tim Brocklehurst Jeremy Gislason Jim Cockrum and a plethora of other marketers sending email after email touting their latest launch of products, systems, software, e-books (you name it). Just yesterday I received 15 emails from various marketers. Some advising their newsletters are ready to read. Some talking about "old pizzas"(?), updating their affiliates, and others launching new products. The truth is internet marketing relies on people like you and me to BUY. After all that's what internet marketing is all about. Using strategies like good sales copy, good products that solve problems, video "how to's", revealing "secrets", and all the while shelling out our money to support the "gurus" raking in the money. What few tell you is it has taken years of increasing their knowledge, getting the right people to mentor them and researching their respective niche to get where they are. I watched a video today from a guy called Joshua Shafran telling me how he will spend around $100K this year on his education alone (just to keep an edge on the market). Sheesh! I don't know about you, but spending $100K when you are paying the mortgage and feeding yourself or your kids just isn't in the same ball park as what most of us have to spend. I would be more inclined to BUY a successful website with that sort of money! The success of Internet marketing relies squarely on the shoulders of other internet marketers feeding the cash cow (aka you and me). No doubt all of us are guilty of buying ebooks, software, systems, and signing up as affiliates to earn some extra cash, but.. have you noticed how you ended up with LESS money than you started with? (just look at your credit card statement if you think not). And no doubt there ARE Internet marketers who have made their fortunes. People like Mike Filsaime who came out with Butterfly Marketing (yep I brought that one). Stompernet SMARTS (Dan Crowther), Affiliate Project X by Chris X (Yep brought that one too). I could go on and on about how many product launches there has been, and how many gazillions each of these marketers has made. But I won't. You already know they are successful. You helped them. But who's helping you? If you have lots of money to splash around, sure you can buy the latest, greatest product to hit your inbox. Problem is there are new products coming out every other day, and they all scream "my product's the best.. forget the rest". Their sales copy will be so convincing, you start to get agitated thinking about the potential of the offer, and the difference the extra money will make. So what do you do? Well.. here's my opinion from having been knee deep in internet marketing long enough to know what works and what doesn't. Read on and I'll tell you my humble opinion...
  1. Don't keep buying e-books, software, joining membership sites (ad nauseum).
  2. Pick ONE subject you want to explore and become an authority on.
  3. Make sure your subject is in a niche.
  4. Look for a problem which needs solving within the niche and brainstorm a way to fix the it. It might be an e-book with info, software, a series of videos (though some of the videos I have seen are like MGM productions and must have cost a bomb to put together).
  5. Find mentors (people you can bounce ideas off, play devil's advocate, encourage you.
  6. Write out what your plan is for your niche and stick it on your monitor where you can be reminded of it every day.
  7. Don't so much as look at anything which is not related to your niche (trust me.. you wil be tempted to click a link, be taken off track and curse yourself when hours have passed and you haven't done a thing that day to move you towards your goals).
  8. Keep focused on your niche.. keep looking for a problem to solve.
  9. Rinse and repeat with a different niche (but only if you can be as enthusiastic about the niche as you were the first time around).
Along the way you are going to have to learn a lot. A hell of a lot. It's not a simple as executing the the steps above and money will roll on in. They are just guidelines to success. You will need to learn how to put up a mini site. You will need to learn how to write good sales copy. You will need to know about social bookmarking, web 2, SEO, Keywords... the list just goes on and on. What's wrong withInternet marketing? Well nothing really. It's working very well (testimony to the millions that exchange hands each year). The problem is the with the people feeding the cash cow. They are the ones who need to change their focus from "I'll try anything", to "I am going to focus all of my energies on XYZ and become an authority (aka Maven). I'm going to stick with it, forsake all the other tempting offers which come my way and remain focused". Making a success of your online business is about doing something better than anyone else. You cannot be all things to all people. Find your niche. Let it consume you until you are such an authority that you become known for your expertise. Then you will have a real business. Not just a mini site flogging an e-book. The choice is yours.
