Tell Me You’re NOT Throwing Money At Adwords?

I’ve realised something..

There must be a gazillion advertisers simply throwing money way using Google AdWords.

I’ve just finished watching Brad Fallon’s and Andy Jenkins video on AdWords Triangulation and it’s jaw dropping!

If you use Google AdWords to advertise your website viewing this video is a must!

The video is a true Stompernet production – I just wish I had the resources to put out videos like the ones these guys do :-)

The video is long… a full 54 minutes, buy it’s jam packed with information you need to know. In fact I would go far as to say that spending money on Google AdWords without viewing this video is as good as throwing money away.

This video gives the low down on everything you need to know about advertising with Google AdWords to drive traffic to your site (well almost everything – they freely admit they keep some of their tools exclusively for their members)

Not only do they show you how to

  • set up and split test an advertising campaign
  • creating a compelling advertisement
  • use Google Webmaster tools

they also include valuable information on

  • how to tweak your website Meta tags Title and Description Keyword tips
  • how to make your all important Title tag “Ad quality”
  • how to think like a consumer when creating your ads
  • why each page of your website should have its own title tag and keywords
  • why a Site map is important
  • the techniques Stompernet uses for its members (well.. not all of them – you have to be a member to get the heavy duty stuff.

I would sincerely suggest you ‘opt in’ to their newsletter to keep up to date with the information these guys give freely to their readers.

I also viewed the Stomper SiteSeer video and took advantage of the free service Stomper SiteSeer generates about your website.  The report has some “fluff” which I guess is there for “newbies”, but well worthwhile for them to read.

The report is a web generated report (without a print option), but cut and paste of the information you need will suffice.

For certain I can say that in my line of work I come across countless websites which have the all important meta tag information missing completely! And the only way anyone is going to find their website is to Stumble upon it, or be given the URL of the site.  Sheesh!! No tags? No way!

So check out  Brad Fallon’s and Andy Jenkins video on AdWords Triangulation before they pull it down, and while you are there check out Stompernet Site Seer.

Can YOU Be One Of The “New Rich”?

Those readers who subscribe to my blog (and BIG thank you to you all) will know I have been reading The 4 Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferris.

I wouldn’t say the book is full of “aha!” moments. In fact if you’re on the Internet Marketing road you will already have some parts of Timothy’s blueprint to being one of the NR (New Rich).

Today I would like to give you a snapshot on the mistakes the NR can make.

If you’ve been in the working world for any length of time, you are going to have to go against your (learnt) impulses to get out from where you are. It’s recognising these impulses, and where they fit into the scheme of the New Rich that will best serve you to keep yourself on track.

Here’s the impulses you will be working against to become one of the NR (New Rich). If you continue to do these you are doomed to fail in your quest for being one of the New Rich.

  1. Getting bogged down in the day to day dealings of life you lose sight of your goal to become one of the NR and end up working for work’s sake.
  2. You love to micromanage and just love your emails.  You like to keep control of situations, rarely delegate responsibility (after all – no one does the job as well as you do), and insist that all decisions are passed by you for your approval.
  3. You tend to tackle things that others (who are more knowledgeable, and better equipped to handle) can do. You thrive on problem solving and get a “kick” from being the one that “handled the problem or task”.
  4. On the rare occasions you do allow others to handle a task, you are constantly inputting your ideas or opinions on how the task should be handled.
  5. You use your time on pursuing unqualified customers, or international prospects when you have enough cash flow to finance your non financial pursuits.
  6. You answer emails that won’t result in a sale when a comprehensive FAQ or an auto-responder to do the job instead.
  7. You work where you live. Work and home have become one – there is no escape.
  8. You know the 80/20 rule but have forgotten to apply it to your business and personal life every two to four weeks.
  9. Your a perfectionist. You fail to recognise this is another “work for works sake” excuse. You are never satisfied with good or good enough.
  10. You are a drama queen. Small problems get blown out of proportion as an excuse to work.
  11. You upscale non urgent issues to urgent in order to justify work.
  12. You know that you are in a rut, know that what you are doing is not the be all and end all of your existence, but you just don’t know how to get out of it. You cannot find meaning to your life.
  13. You have few friends, no hobbies, and rarely go out. You live for your work. Social life? What social life?

Do you have any of these impulses which are keeping you from being one of the New Rich(NR)?

To Twitter or Not To Twitter..

Well.. that really is the question isn’t it?

I’m writing this post after reading a blog post by Eric Holmlund of Eric’s Tips.

Now I must confess, I haven’t been reading much from Eric of late. He’s been focused on The Next Internet Millionaire (which if you haven’t checked it out make a point to go look).

Anyway, his blog post about Twitter hit a nerve with me. You haven’t heard of Twitter? Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

Eric’s blog post was about how much time is consumed by engaging in Twitter (and let’s throw Facebook, and MySpace into the mix as well!)

No doubt there are some real advocates of Internet marketing using these online social network sites to further their celebrity status, however they are a social (repeat social) networking sites – and they are highly addictive. Which all adds up to big time wasters.

The thing is this… it doesn’t take long before Internet marketers jump on the “increase your popularity status” bandwagon and advocate that we follow like sheep along the same path – all because they are doing it. And if they are doing it it must be right? Yes?

Well.. I’m with Eric. While Twittering, and Super Poking friends on Facebook can be fun, it doesn’t take much to while away a few hours, and those hours could be better spent focusing on your business.

Just imagine investing a few extra hours a week (or a day in some cases), promoting your website, tweaking your sales copy, researching new ideas, educating yourself, (the list goes on), instead of killing what time you do have trying to drum up “friends” to add, or Super Poking them?

Quite seriously, I don’t think it will be too long before we see a software program to block access to these sites so we can be more productive!

Just think of how many employees secretly log-in to Twitter or Facebook on the bosses time. How many kids are at their computers under the guise of doing “homework” when what they are really doing is joining networks, viewing hilarious videos, or checking out what their friends have sent them?

And how many internet marketers who have been “told” to use these communities to promote their business get side-tracked and spend precious time being distracted from what their real reason for going there in the first place?

Time and time again I read how people are time poor. I say “baloney!” Everyone has the same amount of time as everyone else. If your not getting done what you need to get done then have a critical look at where you are investing your focus.

And that’s what everyone needs who operates an online business. FOCUS!

Just like when we are out doing the shopping and we see a huge variety of products it all becomes a little overwhelming. But here’s the thing…

If you walk into a store and you know what you want, right down to the brand, the color, size, type, etc you head straight for it and purchase it. That’s focus!

How do you keep focus in your business?

1. Write “To Do” lists and stick to them.

It’s not rocket science. It just works.

Make it a New Year Resolution to write your list and work through it until you have everything done.

It may not be an earth shattering tip, but I guarantee it’s the one that will move you forward a lot quicker than Twittering and Super Poking your friends.
